This morning you will pick up your cars and head to the world-famous Blue Lagoon thermal waters which are surrounded by a lunar landscape. Chill out and soak in toasty warm water surrounded by some stunning Icelandic scenery. Enjoy this oasis and relax before heading off to the three attractions of the so-called Golden Circle.

Thingvellir National Park

An hour's drive and your are at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed 'Thingvellir' (Þingvellir) National Park, where you can see what your physics teacher tried to explain to you for years at school, the phenomenon of tectonic plate divisions - deep and wide faults in the earth. Watch your step! ☺

Geysir
Show maps

The name already explains what you are about to see: the word geyser in Icelandic means "to shoot out" and that is exactly what you will witness: boiling water "shot" dozens of metres into the air!

Gullfoss waterfall
Show maps

Completing the 'Golden Circle' is a majestic waterfall, consisting of two cascades with a total height of 32 metres. It is often accompanied by a brilliant rainbow when conditions are right and can be reached on foot, via an easy dirt track. Take in the beauty of the Gullfoss waterfall in wonderful contemplative silence (unless your group is a noisy bunch!)

On the road

Take your last photos of the dawn and then it's off again towards Vik. The day's drive is only a few hours so you are free to take breaks at the numerous photogenic stops on the way, particularly those overlooking the Hekla volcano

The black beach
Show maps

Just before Vik you will stop at the Dyrholaey viewpoint, a rocky plateau with a huge stone arch. Head down for a breathtaking walk on the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, I bet you wont have seen many (probably any) landscape like this!

At night!

There is no shortage of things to do in this area. You can take advantage of the evening to look for the aurora above the Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, Dyrholaey or the famous Sólheimasandur Plane Wreck. For the more daring (and thermally insulated), a walk through the snow to find a free thermal water pool open all year round is an option!

Endless Road

After a hearty breakfast, you will be off in the direction of Jokulsarlon. The drive will take almost three hours, so you will have time to make a few short stops as you please. In Iceland, the road itself, surrounded by endless green plains, is an attraction to behold!

The Jokulsarlon lagoon

Welcome to this stunning lagoon, where the largest glacier in Europe spans from the mountains to the beach and you can see dozens of small icebergs floating away in the current. It makes for a hell of a beautiful sight when seen at sunset or in the middle of the night with the Northern Lights dancing in the sky. You will spend the night in Hofn, a village close to the Vestrahorn massif and its gigantic lagoon, so get your cameras ready because this landscape is not something to be missed!

Do go chasing waterfalls

It's morning and it's time to hit the road to stop off at two waterfalls, Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss.

Skogafoss
Show maps

This breathtaking waterfall is a must-see in Iceland! You're likely to witness some beautiful rainbows on the ground and in the water among the rocks. Thanks to a nice path with steps, you can easily reach the top to admire the view from above and appreciate the true force of the water from the cliff edge. There is a tourist office with souvenirs and refreshment point, where you stop for lunch.

Seljalandsfoss

Yes, there are many waterfalls in Iceland, but you're going to get to see this one from behind! With the right waterproof equipment and suitable shoes you can go to the back and admire the falling water up close, and snap some extraordinary photos (of course).

DC 3 Plane

Travelling towards Skogar where you will spend the night, you will stop at the DC 3 American plane crash. Seeing it during sunset or at night is the best! Just imagine the scenery of the wreck sunk in the black sands, so close to the seashore, yep, you're in for a treat!

This morning you are off to the Snæfellsnes peninsula, most famous for the Snaefellsjokull volcano - the gateway to the Journey to the Centre of the Earth, according to author Jules Verne! The hiking trails in this part of Iceland are so stunning that you will probably find yourself stopping every 100m to snap a photo. For lunch you will go to the fishing village of Stykkisholmur, which boasts Danish style houses, a harbour, a church with a spectacular viewpoint, and heated pools. In the afternoon you will head on to Olafsvik, a quiet village with hotels, restaurants, petrol (important) and groceries! It is a great place to spend the night in hopes of catching the best view of the northern lights during your trip! Ready to take some great photos with the backdrop of Kirkjufell mountain? There is a reason it was one of the settings used for filming Game of Thrones!

In the morning you will go for a beautiful walk along the trails of the Snæfellsnes to see the glaciers, fjords, lava fields and some of the many lighthouses scattered throughout the peninsula. You will arrive back in Reykjavik for some free time to shop (there are many flea markets, the most famous being Kolaportid), visit museums or relax in one of the many municipal swimming pools (the best are the pools at Laugardalur Park or the Nautholsvik thermal beach). Tonight will be your farewell dinner at an amazing typical restaurant on the harbour. After eating, let yourself be enveloped in the lively, young and fashionable atmosphere of the city. Nightlife in Reykjavik usually doesn't end until the late morning, and every night you're spoilt for choice with the many clubs offering live music. This is your last night in Iceland, so make it unforgettable!
