Robben Island

Discovering the history of South Africa means coming face to face with Apartheid and the many ways in which it affected this country. Our day will start with a visit to Robben Island. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. This tiny island is located just over 4 miles off Cape Town’s waterfront. It is the symbol of South Africa's fight for freedom and the triumph of human spirit over adversity.

Cape Town’s neighbourhoods and Table Mountain

Cape Town is renowned for its vibrant and diverse neighbourhoods. We'll start from the Bo-Kaap, one of the oldest neighbourhoods and probably the most famous one, recognisable by its rows of colourful houses. We’ll then move on to Woodstock, a designer district with galleries and vivid murals. Finally, we’ll head to the wealthy area of Gardens and the historic town port, the V&A Waterfront

After such a busy day, it’s time to enjoy our favourite thing: a beautiful sunset! Today’s location won't disappoint: we are heading to the top of Table Mountain, a flat-topped landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town. Often at sunset, the mountain is covered by the so-called “Table Cloth”, a layer of thin clouds that appear to pour over the mountain whilst the rest of the sky is clear. Get your cameras ready!

On the Road

It’s the dawn of a new day and we are ready to explore the Cape Peninsula. The area is well known for its green landscapes as well as beautiful hikes overlooking the coastline. We’ll drive through Camps Bay and head to the small village of Hout Bay. With a bit of luck, we’ll encounter a group of sea lions who live on the nearby Duiker Island. Our journey continues along Chapman's Peak Road, one of the most beautiful scenic routes you could ever travel. Let’s take our time and admire these wonderful views, take some pictures and breathe in the fresh air, before we get to the Cape of Good Hope.

Cape of Good Hope

We’ve reached one of the great capes of the South Atlantic Ocean! It has long been of special significance to sailors, many of whom refer to it simply as "the Cape". After taking a few memorable snaps next to the iconic sign, we can hike to Cape Point and admire the view over the coast. This is where the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean meet, depending on the currents. Our day in the Cape Peninsula will end at Boulders Beach, the only place in the world where you can get really close to a colony of African penguins. We can stroll on the walkways along the beach and watch these funny birds go about their daily life… and maybe take a few selfies with them too! In the evening we’ll head towards Stellenbosch, where we’ll spend the night.

Stellenbosch is the perfect place to sample some of the delicious wines produced in this region and admire the dreamy landscapes. The vineyards stretching along the hills and the traditional Cape Dutch style white houses will be the backdrop to our wine tastings. We’ll have the chance to sample local produce at one of the many wineries and why not, indulge in a countryside picnic under the beautiful South African sun.

Beautiful Plett

The entire day will be dedicated to exploring the bay and its surroundings. Plett, as the locals call it, is all about the white beach-blue water combo! With mild temperatures all year round and safe waters, it’s the perfect place to chill and unwind. At the same time, there are so many things to see and explore, we really are spoilt for choices. Kayaking, canyoning, surfing and diving are only a few of the options!

Exploring our surroundings

After lunch we can go for a tour of Robberg Nature Reserve, or visit Monkeyland and Birds of Eden, two animal sanctuaries dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of certain species. After sunset, we’ll head back to the bay, hoping to spot a show-stopping display: bioluminescent algae tinging the water an electric blue. The phenomena occurs when the water is moving so let’s jump in the waves and experience the magic as it happens!
