Transfer to Sarria

Today we will arrive in Santiago de Compostela, where a transfer will take us to the town of Sarria, the starting point of our Camino journey. Tonight we will have time to meet our fellow "caminantes" (our walking buddies), settle in and explore the charming town of Sarria. We will visit the 13th-century Church of Santa Mariña and the Fortaleza de Sarria, a medieval fortress with scenic views, before heading for our first dinner to kick off this adventure! Here we will also receive our Credential pack that will be crucial in tracking our Camino and becoming accredited pilgrims!

day 2

Sarria to Portomarín

Stage 1

Today is the day your journey begins, buen camino! We will set off early in the morning from Sarria, trekking through verdant forests and Galician villages to make our way to the historic Romanesque town of Portomarín.

Portomarín is a town that has moved due to floodings. In the 1960s a new dam was built which caused the town to be flooded by the Río Miño which resulted in the town being transferred to a nearby hill.

Portomarín to Palas de Rei

Stage 2

Our second stage sees us travelling from Portomarín to Palas de Rei. This town is a famous medieval town with close ties to military architecture and Roman religious architecture.

Along the way we will pass through the picturesque towns of Gonzar, Ventas de Narón and Ligonde.

Palas de Rei to Melide

Stage 3

Today we are having a more chill day by going from Palas de Rei to the lively town of Melide. This path takes us through beautiful countryside and villages.

Melide is a town famous for its pulpo a la gallega, an octopus dish belonging to the traditional Galician cuisine. Made up of octopus, cooked with potatoes, olive oil, salt and paprika, it is one of Galicia's most famous cuisine. Will you be up for trying this savoury treat?

Melide to Arzúa

Stage 4

Another short stage for us to enjoy those scenic Galician landscapes. Today's stage leads us to Arzúa, the land of cheese. The highlight for our day will of course be indulging in this Arzuan soft cheese delicacy.

Arzúa is famous for being one of the last towns before completing the pilgrimage, fitting since we are more than halfway through our own journey!

day 6

Arzúa to O Pedrouzo

Stage 5

Now reaching the end of our journey, we have a relaxing stage to walk through peaceful forests and farmlands at a leisurely pace. Today our destination is O Pedrouzo.

This town boasts of a peaceful atmosphere and has just over 500 inhabitants! Some treasures from this village include the Church of Santa Eulalia and the Pilgrim’s Monument, which are common visits for pilgrims. O Pedrouzo creates an ideal setting for reflecting on the journey.

This stage is 19km (11.8 miles).

Stage 6 - the finale

The day is here, and it is time to complete the final stage of our Camino! We will once again be walking through eucalyptus forests until reaching Monte do Gozo, where we'll first glimpse the spires of the Santiago cathedral.

We will arrive to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral square where we will celebrate the completion of our Camino! Taking of course the iconic picture in front of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. The rest of the day will involve lots of celebration and resting after a successful adventure!

Check out and goodbyes

We made it! We completed the Camino de Santiago, we should be so proud! Buen camino, indeed.

Sadly it does mean it is time to say goodbye to our newfound friends and to Santiago de Compostela. Until the next WeRoad adventure!
